Admission to doctoral studies is carried out through an open competition. To be eligible for the open competition for admission to the PhD studies in economics, you must have a Master’s degree in economics, management, business or a related field or an equivalent qualification.
If you are still undecided about the topic on which you would like to further your knowledge and write your dissertation, we suggest that you review the PhD topics and contact a potential supervisor for a consultation.
The main competition for admission to the state-funded PhD studies in economics takes place in June.
Applicants submit the application and other mandatory documents to the VILNIUS TECH Doctoral School: (Vilnius, Saulėtekio al. 11, SRC, room 803; tel. (85)2744956, e-mail doktor@vilniustech.lt ) before the application deadline, which is published publicly on the VILNIUS TECH website.
An applicant to doctoral studies has to submit the required documents:
- Application form (.docx format)
- Certified copies of the Master’s degree diploma and its supplement with grades or a higher education equivalent to it
- If the diploma was obtained at a foreign institution – a certificate of recognition of the higher education qualification obtained abroad issued by the Study Quality Assessment Center (SKVC https://www.skvc.lt/default/en/ ) must be submitted together with the diploma,
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Recommendation-agreement of the scientific supervisor of the dissertation topic;
- List of scientific publications and their copies. If scientific publications are not provided the research proposal or the research paper (up to 30 pages) have to be provided. Please evaluate that the research proposal can receive up to 3 points when calculating the overall competitive score, while the research paper - up to 1 point;
- Bank receipt or a transfer copy of the application fee*;
- IELTS (5.5 points), TOEFL (70 points) or Duolingo certificate, indicating B2 English language level. A certificate should be issued not later than 3 years ago. If a Bachelor's or Master's degree study language was English, a certificate is not required.
- Copy of a personal data page of a passport or a copy of a personal ID;
- Consent of processing personal data at VILNIUS TECH.
*Application fee for the nationals of European Union countries – 50 EUR.
Application fee for the nationals of non-European Union countries – 100 EUR.
After the application for admission to doctoral studies has been registered, the entrance fee is not refundable.

Admission preparation memo
Preparation for document submission
- Carefully review the admission requirements to avoid missing important information (there is little change in the competition procedures from year to year, so in the absence of a confirmed admission procedure for the current year, you may review the terms and conditions of the previous year’s competition).
- If you have completed your Master’s degree or equivalent studies at a foreign university, you should submit your diploma for recognition as soon as possible. Documents for the recognition of your qualification in Lithuania should be submitted to the Centre for Qualit Assessment in Higher Education (LT link; EN link). Please note that the recognition procedure can take up to several months.
- Contact scholars and teachers in the field of economics who know you and can write letters of recommendation.

- Fill in the application form for the open competition, checking that you have filled in all the required fields.
- Pay the application fee.
- Submit your documents.
Admission meeting (motivational interview)
- You will be informed of the date and time of the admission meeting at the end of the application period. During the admission meeting, the Doctoral Committee will invite applicants to a motivational interview.
- During the motivational interview, please be prepared to briefly introduce yourself and present your research project.
- During the interview, the applicant's scientific qualifications, scientific experience, preparation and motivation to study for a doctoral degree, and the ability to answer questions in a foreign language are evaluated. It is also assessed whether applicants working in other institutions will be able to devote enough time to research, attending lectures, internships, and trips to conferences.
Publication of admission results
- Information on the PhD students who are offered doctoral studies in economics will be published in the manner and within the time limits set out in the Competition Terms and Conditions.
