The project “Thermal Insulating Materials Derived from Sheep Wool” was launched on the 15thof October 2020. The project is implemented under the activity “Support for the establishment and development of European Innovation Partnership (EIP) operational groups” of the measure “Cooperation” of the Lithuanian Rural Development Program for 2014-2020. The project is being implemented by Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics (LAEI), Laboratory of Thermal Insulating Materials and Acoustics of the Institute of Building Materials of the Vilnius Tech Faculty of Civil Engineering and six family farms. The duration of the project is one year.

The purpose of the project is to develop a product based on renewable resources (sheep wool) that has natural properties and is suitable for the insulation of buildings and premises; and to promote the efficient use of these resources in order to increase the competitiveness of sheep farms and support the transition to lower pollution and low carbon agriculture.

The project aims to combine the knowledge, experience and opportunities of LAEI researchers, Vilnius Tech consultants and progress-seeking farmers in order to address the issues of further use of surplus of sheep wool and protect the environment, and to create additional opportunities for those interested in building insulation and the construction sector.
