On 30 July 2010 the Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics (LIAE) signed a covenant with the Romanian Institute of Agricultural Economics regarding co-operation in the field of scientific research.
The covenant provides for sharing experience in bi-lateral meetings of researchers from the Lithuanian and Romanian institutes, publishing joint articles in the Lithuanian and Romanian scientific publications and developing co-operation with other scientific institutions with the future development of international network of such institutions. A possibility is also included to make jointly prepared presentations in international conferences and, as a joint endeavour of both institutes, to arrange meetings of international character.
The incentive to initiate such a covenant was a long-term informal co-operation of the Lithuanian and Romanian institutes. This year it was decided to officially consolidate and to further develop scientific association of the two institutes.
The co-operation document was signed by the LIAE Director Dr Rasa Melnikienė and the representatives of the Romanian Institute of Agricultural Economics Dr Dan Marius Voicilas and Dr Cornelia Alboiu. During their visit in Lithuania on 14–30 July, the Romanian researchers representing the Institute had intense co-operation with the colleagues from LIAE, exchanged ideas and collected information for the future scientific articles.
The Romanian Institute of Agricultural Economics was founded as early as 1927 and bestowed the name of the Romanian Institute of the Rural Economics Agronomic Researches. Since 1990 it has been named Agricultural Institute and has been operating under the Institute of National Economic Research Institute of the Romanian Academy.
The main areas of activities of the Romanian Agricultural Institute cover the assessment of the business position and the future role in the national economy of the agricultural sector, the factors crucial to the food supply and demand, the dynamics of the socio-economic changes in rural areas etc.
