For hundreds of years gold has been playing a unique role in human societies. Since the times of ancient Egypt up to these days there have been very few metals which have played such an important role in mankind history as gold. Appreciation of gold is as old as the written history of mankind. Although the accurate data on when a human for the first time picked up a golden nugget is hard to obtain, golden remnants are found in paleontological caves, which, according to the archaeological findings, appeared 40000 BC (Hur, 2017).

Viable agriculture is an important element of national economy and society welfare. During the recent decades Lithuanian agricultural system has evolved. However, the nature of these changes and the links with viability of agriculture or individual farmers’ farms is a relevant research topic. The identification of critical indicators of viable agriculture is important for the policy-making and the government of the agricultural system’s evolution.

Statistical publications “FADN survey results" are annually published since 1996. The publication of 2016 is based on accountancy data from 1301 family farms and 35 agricultural companies (AC). Selected farms cover all districts, natural zones and reflect different farming conditions. After the EU accession in 2004 Lithuania usually delivers data of 1000-1150 farms to the EU Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). Lithuanian economic size threshold for FADN survey is 4 thousand Euro. To write a monograph about Game Theory encouraged the following reasons: first of all, the lectures “Game Theory and it's practical application" have been the most interesting for the students during the whole cycle of delivered lectures, secondly, analytical information in different languages on this topic is not so common, not in Lithuanian language at least, and thirdly, the authors wanted to test how widely companies in Lithuania have applied the principles of Game Theory in their daily activity and how beneficial they have been for the business.
