A group of researchers funded by the Lithuanian Science Council is launching the project "Sustainable Rural Area Development via Recreational Trails (TRACKS)".
With the aim of creating a national identity for trail-based recreation and economically revitalising rural communities in Lithuania, the project aims to provide a comprehensive strategy for the sustainable development of Lithuania's recreational trails, based on stakeholder perspectives and economic evaluations. This study uses different research methods combining a systematic literature review, economic impact assessment and stakeholder perspectives. This ground-breaking study brings innovation to recreational trail research by explaining the potential of recreational trails to economically revitalise and develop rural communities, local businesses, and to create a national identity for trail recreation.
